Australian Service Nurses National Memorial
During the period of extraordinary hot summer weather in Canberra, a panel of glass within the Australian Service Nurses Memorial shattered. A temporary panel has been put in place while work is undertaken. The fabrication of the panel will take some months and is expected to be installed after the 2017 ANZAC Day celebrations.
The Memorial was funded through the Australian Service Nurses National Memorial Fund Committee. For further information about the memorial contact the National Capital Authority (NCA).
National Capital Authority works program
In the lead up to the 2017 ANZAC Day celebrations the NCA will be replacing Hebe plants and refurbishing the red gravel along ANZAC Parade. The iconic WWI inspired, helmet-shaped lighting is also being upgraded to have a new LED lighting and electronics system, which will reduce power consumption by 43 per cent.
The NCA is also undertaking conservation works to the WWI Memorials through funding from the Australian Government’s Protecting National Historic Sites Programme.
Traffic and pedestrian management
The above mentioned work may at times result in temporary disruptions to traffic flows along ANZAC Parade over the next few months. Sections of the footpaths along the parade will also be temporarily closed and signs will redirect pedestrians and cyclists.
